Description

With the publication of Chopin’s Rondos, another volume is added to the series The Complete Chopin – A New Critical Edition. Chopin’s Rondos represent an essential part of the composer’s œuvre, with the Rondo in C minor Op. 1 marking the beginning of his career as a published composer. This edition includes not only his first published work but also the Rondos Op. 5Op. 16, and Op. posth. 73 for solo piano. This Urtext edition, edited by David Rowland, is based on Chopin’s autograph manuscripts as well as first editions published in Poland, France, Germany, and England. It also includes illustrations from the first edition of Op. 1 as well as fingering by Polish pianist Karol Mikuli, a student of Chopin. With a total playing time of approximately 37 minutes, this volume is aimed at advanced pianists.
The Complete Chopin – A New Critical Edition series is recognised as the definitive scholarly edition of Chopin’s music. Under the direction of editor-in-chief John Rink, a team of some of the world’s most respected Chopin specialists contribute their unrivalled collective knowledge to imbue the project with unique authority, drawing upon the latest international scholarship. The Complete Chopin prioritises the needs of the practical pianist and provides a text of each work based on a single principal source together with important variants from other authoritative sources, along with thorough critical commentaries and prefatory essays in English, French and German.
