Back in the 1980s, electric guitarists who wanted to play acoustic on stage had very few options that truly worked. The APX series was designed with electric players in mind. Every detail was crafted to make the switch easy, from the stylish finishes to the cutaway body and the slim neck that feels just like an electric guitar.
At the heart of any electro-acoustic is the blend of its natural acoustic sound and its pickup system. The latest APX600 features a unique under-saddle piezo pickup combined with Yamaha’s proprietary Pickup-R transducer, the same system used in the highly praised A Series. This setup offers incredible dynamic range, a natural tone, and excellent feedback rejection with a sound that fits perfectly in any mix. Yamaha’s legendary active preamp is still a major part of the APX’s sound, and being developed by Yamaha’s audio-visual division, the quality is exactly what you’d expect from the world’s leading brand.
Styles have evolved since 1987, but the essence of APX remains unchanged. Today’s APX guitars sport a more natural appearance, a 5mm deeper body for stronger bass response and greater volume, plus a new non-scalloped bracing pattern that delivers a responsive, dynamic tone.
