Back in the 1980s, electric guitarists had limited options when it came to playing acoustic live. That changed in 1987 when Yamaha introduced the first acoustic guitar you could grab straight from a rack, plug in and play at stage volume, without the usual issues. No more feedback, awkward mic setups or long sound checks.
The APX series was designed with the electric player in mind. From its sleek finishes and comfortable cutaway body to the slim neck that feels familiar in the hands of an electric guitarist, every detail was made for smooth transitions on stage.
At the heart of every electro-acoustic is the relationship between the natural tone of the guitar and the performance of its pickup system. The APX1200 is the flagship of the range, featuring Yamaha’s advanced SRT mic-modelling pickup and preamp system. Developed by Yamaha’s own audio-visual team, it delivers rich, natural amplified tone with excellent feedback control and studio-quality sound.
With a solid spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides, the APX1200 produces a full, balanced acoustic tone. A deeper body improves bass response and volume, while the non-scalloped bracing enhances clarity and dynamics. Premium appointments include mahogany binding, abalone and mother-of-pearl inlays inspired by the SG3000, and elegant black button tuners.
