By the early 1960s, the Stratocaster had established itself as Fender's flagship electric guitar. The 1961 model introduced a refined aesthetic, including a vibrant 3-Colour Sunburst finish, bold black edging and a classic 3-ply pickguard that complements the Stratocaster's distinctive body shape.
The American Vintage II 1961 Stratocaster features an alder body and three Pure Vintage '61 Stratocaster single-coil pickups, delivering the clear, articulate and dynamic tones associated with an early-'60s Strat. The medium "C"-shaped maple neck has a 7.25-inch radius slab rosewood fingerboard, providing a comfortable vintage-style playing feel.
Period-correct appointments include a synchronised tremolo with a cold-rolled steel block and bent steel saddles, single-line "Fender Deluxe" tuning machines and a classic 3-ply pickguard. Every element has been carefully selected to recreate the look, sound and feel of an original 1961 Stratocaster.

From the bridge to the string tree and tuning machines, every piece of American Vintage II hardware is manufactured to look, sound and function just like it did on the originals. Much of the American Vintage II hardware is still manufactured on the original 50s and 60s era Fender factory machines.
