Description

Rainger FX Amp Crash

The Amp Crash packs an amplifier, speaker and microphone into a compact effects pedal, creating a genuinely physical mic'd amp experience rather than simply simulating one. Its built-in 3-watt amplifier drives an internal 2-inch speaker, while an internal microphone captures the sound as the speaker moves air. The direct amplifier signal and mic'd signal can then be blended to produce everything from rich overdrive and crushing fuzz to harmonic feedback, natural compression and unpredictable textures.

Unlike conventional distortion or amp simulation pedals, Amp Crash generates its core sound through the physical interaction between the amplifier, speaker and microphone. As the speaker and microphone respond to one another, the pedal produces harmonics, feedback and tonal characteristics that develop naturally as the instrument is played. Push the gain towards overload for aggressive distortion, oscillation and controlled chaos, or explore the more responsive and touch-sensitive side of the pedal.

The concept makes Amp Crash an incredibly versatile tool for recording, practice and experimentation. It can function as a compact recording setup, a portable practice amp, an experimental effects platform or a source of sounds that would be difficult to achieve with a conventional pedalboard. The built-in effects engine takes things further with Reverb, Echo and Chorus, allowing you to shape and expand the amp's unique character.

Amp Crash offers extensive control over the internal amplifier and signal routing. The DI OUT and MIC OUT controls let you independently balance the direct amplifier and microphone signals, while the MIC GATE can be enabled to reduce unwanted microphone noise. The GAIN control takes the internal amplifier from cleaner sounds through to overloaded distortion and wild oscillation, while the TONE control moves from deep, bass-heavy tones to brighter, more focused sounds.

The SFX section provides three additional effects. Reverb ranges from small-room ambience through to huge cave-like spaces, Echo provides classic tape-style repeats, and Chorus delivers three-dimensional modulation ranging from metallic flanging to lush chorus. The DEPTH control adjusts the blend or intensity of the selected effect, while TIME controls reverb decay, echo delay time or chorus speed depending on the selected effect.

For further flexibility, the Amp Crash features an external speaker output that accepts an 8-ohm minimum speaker cabinet rated at 3 watts or greater. Connecting an external speaker automatically disables the internal speaker, allowing the pedal to be integrated with a larger amplification setup.
