This beautiful, handmade violin was crafted in Germany somewhere around the turn of the twentieth century. Classed as a 'workshop' violin, this instrument was probably made by an apprentice luthier due to its slightly 'rough around the edges' appearance. Despite this, the apprentice worked to an excellent standard and had a fine ear for tone-woods, choosing this beautiful quilted-maple to construct the back and sides. Not only this, but the skill of the apprentice is evident in their ability to craft a perfectly even one-piece back which is a desirable quality in a violin, and not an easy feat to achieve with knotted (or 'quilted') wood such as this.
The violin has been recently restored to perfect playability and has been restrung with a full set of Dominant 4/4 strings (worth £45 alone). A mid-century case is provided but could do with an upgrade and the bow is a good quality, however will need to be re-haired.
At £299, this wonderful and unique violin has a wonderful, well-rounded voice and would be perfect for any budding violinist looking to assume, or even resume studies in the instrument.
