Tom Odell And Roland Digital Pianos

British singer and songwriter Tom Odell has had an amazing year – he won the BRITs Critics' Choice Award in early 2013, has released a number 1 album and played on big-time shows such as David Letterman and Jonathan Ross, as well as at world-famous festivals like Glastonbury. His truly amazing musical talents seem to know no bounds, and he shows them off wonderfully on the instrument of his choice, which we think he is near in love with – a Roland Digital Piano.

Since his rise to fame, Tom has heaped praise-a-plenty upon these instruments, and simply cannot bear to use anything else if he can possibly help it. It all started way-back-when, when Tom was living in Brighton and going from venue to venue carrying an FP7 (or possibly FP4… rock and rolling your way around the world can play havoc with the memory!), which he adored for its light weight and reliability as well as great sound. Nowadays, life on the road has taken a whole new meaning. Rather than doing the rounds at venues in Brighton, Tom is travelling the world to play to an ever-growing audience.

But What Makes Him Take His Roland Piano Wherever He Possibly Can?

Well, in a couple of interviews with Roland Pianos themselves, Tom Odell tells all, and it is clear his passion for such an instrument has been well earned by the makers of such a quality instrument.

One of his favourites is the Roland FP80 Portable Digital Piano - because it is light and means that he can set it up in the dressing room and write tunes rather than twiddling his thumbs. In this short interview, you can tell by the way he caresses the keyboard while reminiscing, that his experience with Roland Pianos may well have been love at first sight!

Another favourite is the Roland LX15 Supernatural Digital Piano , which he likes to take to festivals and gigs because it is ideal for shows. According to Tom it “looks like an upright piano, plays like an upright piano and does not need to be tuned every day”, and from what we can see – it stands up to the demands of a world-class musician like an upright piano too!
